Japan has a very rich culture. But the contributions that have been mentioned were not intended to be for the world: Kubuki, the geisha, the samarai, tea ceremony, flower arranging, etc. Because of Japan's geographic location, made up of several islands off the coast of Asia, she has received culture rather than contributing it. Throughout most of history she has received contributions like Buddhism, her alphabet, her architecture, classic art, dress, food, etc from China. She then adopted it to her own needs. In the 19th century, under the Meiji emperor, Japan sent out people to other lands to aquire knowledge so she could "modernize" and "westernize". Its only in modern times that Japan has become a modern nation and in a position to make contributions to the world. Since her defeat in WWII she has made contributions to world peace by serving as a positive example of a peaceful nation. Formerly she was the most war like nation in the world. By improving on technology that has come from the West Japan has made contributions to the world. An example of this is in sound equipment like Sony and Yamaha. Japan has had an influence on world culture by their sense of beauty and appreciation of nature. Frank Lloyd Wright was influenced in his architecture by the Japanese house and its setting in nature. Today Japanese culture and influence can be seen all over the world.

Yep- at that time many "western" or "Christian' cultures bathed only when necessary, but to do business with Japan they needed to be clean.

Japan possess the longest continuing imperial lineage of any country in history; one of exclusive male succession: one where a female has never reigned, much less ruled.

The ancient Japanese developed a most unusual aspect of personal grooming imaginable: the women of the oldest, original aristocracy, painted their teeth black: this was perceived as being beautiful. Uggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

A most original form of poetry: the haiku.

The Kabuki theater: a most unique form of the theatrical.

Tradition of the samurai: again, a most unique form of feudal military concepts: one in which personal honor and allegiance to their lord was paramount; and sometimes required them to commit suicide(hara kiri) in order to maintain this honor.

They evolved what is probably the most unique and best maintained social system that has ever existed; and still holds sway more or less to this very day.

What is the most starkly simplistic, yet strikingly beautiful art form ever evolved.

The Japanese are the greatest imitators, mimickers ever: hence their phenomenal success in the adaptation of western industrial and technology, which has helped them in their rise to becoming an economic world power.

Their culture evolved an unrivaled concept of national honor to a degree unheard of: i.e.: the Kamikaze pilots of WW II.

Like say, enough already?
