I dont mean songs that have been redone by other artists or just done differently by the same artist. I

mean for example on living on a prayer (bon jovi joni worked on the docks) has there been another song by the same artist or a different one that the lyrics refer to the same character.? two or more different songs that refer to the same event or character but are a continuation of events in the previous song.

The most obvious example - Bowie's continuing saga of the lost space boy in "Space Oddity" / "Ashes To Ashes" has been used already.

Another notable example is the character called Dani California by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who has featured in no fewer than three RHCP songs: "By the Way", "Californication" and "Dani California" (she dies in the last one, but given Anthony Kiedis' fascination with the character, don't be surprised...)

Another female who recurs is a hooker called Charlotte in the Iron Maiden universe - she's in four of their songs. I remember hearing "22 Acacia Avenue" from "The Number Of The Beast" album for the first time and being amazed when her name cropped up (she had been on their debut album as well (on a track called "Charlotte The Harlot".)

Another girl (hey, this is weird : ) is Judy from The Ramones. She appeared in the famous song "Judy Is A Punk" and in a follow-up track called "The Return Of Jackie And Judy" (Jackie was also a character in the first song.) The second song never became a Ramones standard, unlike the first.

And another Judy song cycle, from a totally different era, the 60s: "Judy's Turn To Cry", which was the follow-up song by Lesley Gore to her more famous original "It's My Party". This song is most well-known from an 80s cover version by Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin. It's the one that goes: "It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to, You would cry too, if it happened to you"...

The only songs I know that refer to the same character(s) of another song are those by my number one favorite band, Bon Jovi, as you referred to in your question. I'll be interested to see if there are others.
