Tell the truth, and as you're doing so hand over another necklace. Saying sorry and i'll buy a new one doesn't cut it. You can't be trusted with other people's belongings, at least that's what going to be thought of you, I'm sure you promised to take care of it, you made a mistake, fine, but promising to buy another one - well, your word has been compromised now. Show that you're willing to fix your errors but doing so, not because your being told to.
