We have no windows in our bathroom, but we have a ventilator up in the ceiling. After the mold starting growing we kept it on 24/7 and we kept the bathroom door open, but the mold kept growing/spreading. Basically the mold is little black dot in groups. And its making the paint peel. What should I do.

Assuming that your exhaust vent is working properly, I believe you have more than a mold problem.

Before you even worry about the mold, you need to find and repair the cause of the mold. I'd bet you either have a leaking water pipe or a leaking roof.

After repairs, use both, vinegar and bleach, (NOT mixed together!) Use the vinegar first. Let it dry. Use bleach mixed 1 cup per gallon. Mist it on, wait 8 - 12 minutes then rinse and dry thoroughly. *If you want a little more assurance, spray with a professional quality mildewistat. Follow directions on the container.

If the paint is peeling you probably have a water intrusion problem. That could either be from the humidity levels in the bathroom, or from a leaky pipe or fitting in the wall.

Bleach or any other surficial treatment is just going to clean surface or cosmetic mold. Regardless of what cleaning product you use in the interim the water issue needs to be corrected.

Which walls have visible mold?

Is there also tile or molding on the walls?

Is there vinyl covebase at the base of the walls?

Are the walls: drywall, concrete, or some other material?

How many people share the bathroom and how frequently is it used (ie 2 showers per day etc)?

For the interim don't store your towels or linens in the same room. If you have significant mold growth considering using a disposable respirator when cleaning, and wear dish-washing gloves or an equivelant. Keep the bathroom as dry and clean as possible until the problem is corrected.

Will check back for updates.

I work at a mold remediation company mold growth will spread if you keep the door open and ventilator on. Your best bet is to call a company for an estimate. If the mold gets in your HVAC system then you will have spores all over your home which will create mold everywhere. Did you have a water loss that the water came down through the ceiling? The only way to get rid of mold is to remove the affected areas the right way. ( With a containment barrier and an air filtration device) Please make sure you correct this problem by calling a local remediation company. You don't want this to become a widespread problem.

Also if you choose to remediate on your own you could potentially put mold spores in the air which can cause various health issues.

one part bleach and 9 parts water will work as a good cleaning agent. Do not overuse bleach cause it can be harmful if breath in the fumes.
Also, find a place where the paint has pealed and remove the old paint and see if there is mold underneath. If there is then you have a larger problem and may need remediation. If you are in a rented place then they should cover the cost and any health issues that have come up.

the black spots are easily removed with almost any household solution. however, that's only cosmetic. the paint is pealing b/c of the humidity under the paint, not the mold spots. this could be due to the increased humidity in the bathroom or water above the ceiling. if you can push on the area and it's mushy, you have a problem.

The mold is not making the paint peel. Water from behind the paint is making the paint peel.

You will get answers telling you to use bleach on the mold, but this is wrong. Do NOT use bleach on mold because bleach will NOT kill mold. It may make the black dots go away, but it is not killed and will simply come back in no time. Mold is a plant, and it sends short roots into any surface it grows on. The ionic structure of bleach will not allow the bleach to penetrate a surface, so the bleach sits only on top of the surface. Since common house hold bleach is 95% water, the water part of the bleach solution WILL penetrate the surface and this water is exactly what the mold needs to grow. So by using bleach on mold you are actually giving it exactly what it wants to grow and spread.

Use ordinary white vinegar instead; this will kill 80% of all mold types. To kill all of it, use tea tree oil, which can be found online from several sources.

Whatever you do, do NOT use bleach. Bleach is corrosive and can degrade any surface to which it is applied, and can actually cause wood to deteriorate..
