After a long split we got back together a long while ago and we already had a daughter together so the marriage was not what I meant as being the last ditch attempt I put everything into making it work and the marriage meant everything to me,I think a few of you don't understand that, but when he punched me in the face a month ago I obviously had no choice

i'm sorry, you can't divorce him until you've been married for a year. as he's been violent towards you though, i would go for a legal separation. see a solicitor as soon as you can. if you can't afford one, cab will advise you who can handle your case with legal aid. you need to get the law on your side, so that you & your daughter are protected. believe me, if he's hit you once, he will do it again! have you got somewhere to go? if you don't, cab can also arrange a womens refuge for you. i wish you all the best, diane.

People aren't going to understand about him punching you if you don't tell them right away. It was very silly to think marriage was going to force a relationship to work. As far as I know, you can get a divorce at anytime, but you need to check with the laws and guidelines within your state. Each state is different. You may want to get a restraining order on him to keep your daughter free from physical harm.

Yes you can go ahead and get divorced. It's going to really suck but yes you can file papers already.

First of all yoiu shouldn't have gotten married if your relationship wasn't working in the first place, Now you see it wasn't a cure and plus he's hit you and you have a child together. PLEASE before he really gets abusive to you or the baby get out. Start the New year with a new life. Good luck and God Bless

Likely you can. Certainly you should have had the common sense to know that if the relationship was falling apart there is nothing about marriage that would keep it tigether. Marriage, after all, is just a ceremony and a piece of paper giving you certain legal rights.
It is unbelieveable that if you could not make a go of it while being together that you thought you could make it work while being together.
You can get divorced. Irreparable and irreconcilable differences will generally cover it. Incompatability.
Had you two ever though of the promises you made to each other on that wedding day? One does wonder why you made them if you were already on the road to self destruction.
How about consulting an attorney. You can get the fine details from a person who is aware of the laws in your state.

You got married to fix a crummy relationship....? WTF? I guess that beats having a baby to fix a bad relationship.
