I've always been really bad at playing the game monopoly - I don't think that I have won even once in my life! Does anyone have any tips/strategies that they'd like to share?

I'm seeking advice particularly for dog-opoly though - one of the newest versions of monopoly. Tips for any of the versions though would be appreciated as they're all quiet similar anyway.

Thanks!

Monopoly Strategy

2016-10-04 12:06:14 · answer #3 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

It's very easy. There's one strategy and i think that's also the only good strategy. In the beginning, when no one has houses you buy everything you can possibly afford, so your opponents can't possibly obtain every street of one colour. There's one exception. If say, someone bought a yellow street and an opponent also bought a yellow street, there really is no need to buy that third yellow street. If people decide to gang up on you and exchange cards, well there's little you can do, except try to get a bargain as well so you can exchange a useless card for a monopoly of your own. Never give up a card unless you get a card back that's needed for a good monopoly of your own. If you can, offer a huge sum (monopoly money) to get a monopoly card from a fellow player. you can also bribe them with some crisps, or donuts, if you're American. Once the game starts rolling and people deploy their houses and hotels, you'd better have some extra cash available so not to be bankrupted right away.

Other than that it's just luck. If you're overpowered, there's nothing you can do. Just make sure you play accurately. If you land on a place for which you ought to pay, just pass the dice. if nobody claims any money, well that's lucky for you! Also make sure you always get paid yourself. If someone is almost bankrupt, finish them off before they can get new cash. If someone can come back in the game you just have to beat them twice. That's all there is too it. I always win.

Good luck!

Some basic strategy in the traditional game is to try to buy the railroad properties early on and focus on getting all three properties of the same color group as quickly as possible. The most bang for your buck would be the Orange color group (the group just before Free Parking). Since so many people land on the Jail space just before it, those properties are landed on frequently.

When you buy houses for your monopoly, you should try to buy at least three on each space to start off (if you can afford it). The rents jump when you go from 2 to 3 houses on a monopoly.

The Oranges is the best monopoly to own because it is six, eight and nine spaces away from Jail, the most commonly land space on the gameboard. The Utilites are overrated. So are Boardwalk and Park Place especially when the "Advance to Boardwalk" Chance card has been revealed. A Railroad monopoly can be useful early in the game but it become trivial late in the game.

I agree with what others have said -- I usually buy, buy, buy and build up as soon as possible. Also, the Orange properties are the best -- if you can get them, do it! Like a previous respondent said, many people end up going to jail and since 6, 7, 8 come up more often than other numbers like 2, 3, 11 or 12, maybe players land on orange. Build here first.

don't buy everything you land on. buy the second or third most expensive properties.
you don't need all the railroads or utilities. just some.
something you might not know is monopolies without houses and hotels the rent is doubled might be better than having houses or hotles. you have to check.

make deals wisely.

Personally, I usually win with the red, yellow and green properties. That is especially true once the hotels go up... It wouldn't hurt to make deals on the side too, but beware of shysters.

no1 wants to play with me because i always win because of this--
i save up and dont buy anything until the game is half-way through then when im loaded i wait until i land on the upper-price places and BOOM! buy 3(4) houses and repeat then after about 2 times around the board (while adding 2 houses each round) then buy HOTELS!!!!
