As a UK Citizen, can I obtain tourist entry visas for Kenya and Tanzania at point of entry (Nairobi and Zanzibar respectively), or must they be bought ahead of holiday? If bought on entry, how much and in what currency?"

You can use the site below to see that visas are required and can be obtained on arrival, tho not recommended to get on arrival for Kenya. Also gives payment info. Just enter your nationality and destination and click for info. Looks like it is better to get visa for Kenya through the embassy ahead of time.

You require a customer visa. that is easiliy gained on arrival at immigration/passport administration counter (purely replenish a visa form) and costs US$50. this visa enables you to stay in Kenya (offcourse not for employment) and extendable for yet another 3 months. Kenya is an marvelous u . s . a . and you shall enjopy your flow to. The era between July to Mid October has lot of untamed existence in Masaai Mara.

yeah u can depends with who u knw and try and say u are broke but if i were u i wud give it 6 mnths its not safe at all now

not sure about tanzania, but you can get a visa in kenya on arrival, it costs £30 each, you can pay in sterling or us dollars, we always pay in sterling as we are both english, we are going in febuary 08, already booked.
