OK so I managed to get a PSP and I'm planing to upgrade the firmware (not too far) and hack the BIOS.

I have hundreds of *LEGAL PS1 ISO's and I was wandering if I can connect a 2.5" HDD to the PSP by using the USB port or possibly the SD card slot with some sort of 'SD' to 'IDE' Adapter - is this possible? Obviously the HDD will need to be run from the MAINS power supply ;)

I know this is possible using just an SD card (sony magic card) but they are 8GB for the same price as a 250GIG HDD ;)

*I actually own all of the games and the PSP hardware and the BIOS software LEGALLY so please don't delete the question this time ;)

Thanks Andrew. I /can/ already get it to work with a normal flash card but, as you say, only up to 8MB (which is too expensive anyway).

I wanted to know if there is a way to get a 250GIG HDD to run through the "USB" port or memory card slot.

Maybe I could hack the firmware to support 250GB instead of just 8GB or, more likely, get the HDD to run from the USB port by using a home-brew driver or frontend menu. Thanks for the links.

I found a 160GB HDD and an enclosure that takes the Power from the PSP's USB. I reckon I can either Hack the BIOS or just get a bootstrap to point to the HDD instead of the Magic card.

it cannot be done. the official firmware supports only an 8 gig mem stick (custom firmware 32). even then, using a flash drive from say an ipod would require a complete hardware change to it would be able to read and write like it does on the memory stick.
there is a 4 gig hdd out there, but it costs the same as a 4 gig card so it doesnt make much sense.
if you really want to get into it, go to the developer forums at http://qj.net

somewhat! There are some on the marketplace already. they are meant for use as networked workstations, working apps on a server, yet they boot thoroughly from flash memory and have no stressful drives in any appreciate. that's only a count quantity type of time (a million-2 years) in the previous the preice/overall performance curve falls in %. of flash over HDD.

Well you may be able to flash the BIOS some how with that method but you're ultimately going to need a legit memory stick at some point in time as I doubt the PSP will be able to recognize a PC hard drive in the same way it would a memory stick.

Just get a 1 or 2 gig stick instead, the 8 would be nice but 1 or 2 is sufficient for running homebrew and such on your PSP.
