However, the process of making an individual sperm cell from start to finish takes around 64 days. It is just that there are a hell of a lot of them all being made at the same time that so many are able to be produced over a 24 hour period.

Sperm production is also sensitive to factors such as temperature. If the testes (where the sperm are produces) are not 4 - 5 degrees below normal body temperature sperm production may decrease.
