I've got Paint Shop Pro 9, I've got a brand new Wacom Intuos3 and I grew up drawing comics so I've got all the ingredients needed to make a good drawing/graphic...

My problem is that when I'm drawing my normal charactors on the digital screen, they seem pixelated instead of a smooth "pen like" appearance.

I'm trying to get that smooth natural pen like look (without having to use other programs like Corel Painter 10 or Photoshop)... so are there any other digital artists like me who know how to achieve this look? Thanks a million for your input!

My settings are: (Round) Size:2 Hardness: 100 Step:1 Density & Thickness: 100 (Paint Shop Pro 9)

I imagine the answer is to reduce the hardness setting, but your size is very small I think you should work at a higher resolution.

In order for it to be print quality the resolution should be at least 300dpi when the image is printed (so if you work at 200% the dpi should be set to 150 dpi) also work in the CMYK gamut, rather than RGB. The image resolution can be reduced and converted to RGB for online work but you cannot successfully increase/improve dpi.

I agree with the suggestions that, perhaps, your document is set at too low a resolution.

Open up a new document (file) and select a higher resolution. (PPI) I am not familiar with Paint Shop Pro, but it will, either allow you to set a higher PPI, or a file with larger dimensions in highth and width.

Make shore that the USB drawing pad is plugged into a powered 2.0 USB port or powered hub to use it to it's potential.
You could also try reinstalling the drivers and upgrading the firmware.
Then agen, Practise, Practise, Practise.

Could be that you need to set the dpi of your pen. You should have the option to change that somewhere. Try mouse settings and your pen should be in there.

Start with a BIG canvas and at least 70dpi. 300 is even better but your computer should be able to keep up with your 'smooth motion'.

Also use full color no B&W or 16, 250 or other restraint on the number of colors.

Try increasing the dpi/dimensions of your canvas.
