There is a lid switch you can see on the top of the washer it is a small opening that recieves a tab that is in the lid. When the lid close the tab pushes on the switch through the opening in the top of the washer. This is a safety switch to prevent a spin cycle with the lid opened.Put the washer in the spin cycle, turn it on where it should spin.Take a screw driver and push down on the switch opening. If it starts spinning the switch need adjusting,if not the switch needs to be replaced.

There are certain washers, that use the drive belt as a slip clutch.
The motor runs forward to agitate.
But to spin, the motor is reversed. In this direction an idler pulley allows the belt to slip, so the drum can come up to full speed gradually. At which point the belt will fully engage.
If the belt becomes worn, it will never completely engage, so the drum will spin slowly.
So I think a new belt is the answer. I hope?

Hi, It would help a lot if I knew which model washer you had. The front load washers would do this if the pump was not working correctly, but also if the computer board is having problems. It could even do this if to much soap was added. On the top load models the most likely problem is a failing basket drive. But still could be a pump problem. Most of the top load models are NOT back serviceable. Service is through the front. Good luck

The pump may be blocked with something. The machine will think there is still water in there and not spin until its cleared.

Take the back off and open the clip to the pump with mole grips. Make sure you do this outside though with the power OFF!

As it's the same motor that turns the drum to wash and spin, then either the motor-controller has gone faulty, or more likely the programme controller has gone faulty. Thats the thing that tells it *when* to spin.
