I started a new pack of birth control before I went to bed last night at about 11 pm and by 1:30 I was running to the bathroom. I took some Pepto Bismol and drank some Vernors (ginger ale) but I was still up until 3 am. I couldn't lie back down because the second I did, I felt sick again.

WTF? I've been on this exact same pill for years. Why did it make me so sick?

Hi Bella. Since you stated that you have been taking the same birth control pills for years, I would not automatically associate the sickness with the pills. The greater chance is you became sick due to something completely different.

It is very common to associate an illness with something that you have previously ingested. Given the time you took the pill and the time you became sick, I would think it unlikely to be due to the BC pill. Your body should not have reacted adversely in such a short amount of time.

I would suspect some other cause for the sickness. Perhaps, it was due to food poisoning. This is more commonly the cause of sudden sicknesses such as the one you described. It usually takes several hours before the onset of symptoms appear after eating, or ingesting something contaminated. In all actuality, most people think they have a stomach bug when in fact it is really a food borne pathogen. Campylobacer ( The most common type of food -borne baceria) is more common than most think. It's transmission is generally from under-cooked or raw poultry. Of course, you know me, I cannot dismiss Salmonellea. It is yet another source of a food-borne pathogen similar to Campylobacter.

If you continue to experience these symptoms or they worsen within the next few hours, I suggest you make an appointment to see your physician. I alway err on the side of caution. If you cannot get an appointment with your gyno or GP, then I would advice you to go to the ER and be evaluated.

It may well be a stomsch flu/virus. Of course, there is always the slight chance of a pregnancy. If there is a possiblity at all of you being pregnant, you need to see a doctor and/or take a home pregnacy test. If a pregnancy has occurred then you need to consult your doctor and stop taking the pills as they would be detrimental to a fetus.

Good luck sweetie. I hope you're feeling better by the time you read this. ;)

Bella,

If you're problem concerned something to do with electricity, I'd be of greater help.

There's a reason I leave all of the health questions to Lisa.
As you can see, she's very knowledgeable and thorough on the subject. I mean who else actually reads the PDR (other her) just to unwind? LOL

If I had to hazard a "guess", I'd think it was either food poisoning or the stomach flu.

Get to feeling better, take care and hopefully you're getting some rest right about now!

You may have caught a bug which would not have had anything to do with the BC pills. I tell you, you are dedicated to this forum. I was looking at the time I received this email and it said 3:12. I wouldn't have asked a question at the time a day especially if I'd gotten sick.

You probably had the flu that just happened to start up after taking a new refill of birth control pills. I doubt the pills had anything to do with your bout of vomiting. I'm sure once you're feeling better and you take another pill you'll find that it will have no ill effect. Good luck.

Could be that you may not have had enough to eat in the minutes before you took it. Another possibility is that a virus could be going on. I would recommend getting in touch with your doctor as well to see what they think could be going on.

if you have been using the same birth control for years, i don't think it's the birth control think about what you ate today or what you drank. Or you could just be stressed. I think you should keep taking it and see if you continue to throw up. if you do, i say see a doctor and tell them your bc has been making you sick.
i hope you feel better!
