I have an arab qh mare that no matter where in her stall you hang her water bucket she poops in it. We didn't train her to do this she just started doing it once we got our barn built and put he rin a stall. It can be a pain but also makes for quick cleanup. We have tried hanging an empty bucket and seeing if she will poop in it but she won't she'll only poop in the one with water... weird huh? anyway what we have had to resort to doing is hanging one water bucket in a crone rof her stall and then hanging another bucket with water right next to her feed bin, we have also outfitted a "top" for it that is just big enough for her to get her nose into. This seemsto have helped the problem. Some horse sare just naturally better stall keepers than others, my appy gelding used to pee in the same spot all the time and my paint goes along one side of the stall to poop, granted it's not one spot along the wall but the whole wall. now my QH mare good God she poops anywhere and everywhere same with pee. lol

I'm pretty sure they can. I saw a segment on some TV news show where the horse was housebroken .when he needed to relieve himself ,He would go to the door. Also I read an article about Roy Rogers stating that Trigger would "Clean out " on command before they would shoot a scene.

I dont know but my arabian goes in the same spot every time, he never really rolls in the mud either. Maybe he just likes to be clean. But i never hear of any one training a horses for that.. Kinda funny that you asked that

I don't know that you can train him. Many horses are just naturally clean that way and will choose a spot or if it is a large space they might choose several spots to use as a toilet. My oldest gelding goes where ever he feels like in his stall, but my younger gelding will only use the back wall. They all use only certain spots in the pasture though. It is un-natural for a horse to poop where he eats or sleeps so usually if you feed him in one section he will use another area as his toilet.

even if you could, which you can't, why would you want to? Your supposed to train your horse to keep going to the bathroom as you work him so if you show your horse one day and your in a class they don't just stop so they can do the do.

Well, horses naturally tend to do this anyway. It is a nice trait to have as it makes mucking out easier. But perhaps try rewarding your horse when you see him going to the bathroom in the place you like, but never punish when your horse does it incorrectly. Good luck

Yes and no.

Some equines are very clean by nature; these are the ones who you would be able to "train". Some are just pigs!

I had an incredibly clean pony when I was a teenager - in his stable he would always dung in the same corner, and he'd back himself up to get into the right position. If I was schooling him, I'd have to take him to a particular tree in the adjoining paddock, and if he was turned out in that paddock that's where he'd do his droppings.

You can't train a horse the way you'd train a dog, but you can praise and encourage. Just don't expect big results!

Well, even if you could (which you can't) it would be pointless.

They poop every hour.

So you wouldn't be able to do anything with him. He'd constantly be running to the potty.
