Possibilities:
Plug
Tension on chain
Gas line filter
Ratio of gas & oil
Anything is possible

The first thing I would do is to read my
owners manual and check the Trouble Shooters category. If you don't have the manual then sometimes you can find them on line from the manufactures and print one off. Or sometimes people sell them.

Then I would do is put this in the category below you will have a better chance of discovering what the problem could be. It in the same column as garden & landscape.

having had the same problem with a stihl o25 chainsaw it turned out to be the diaphragm in the carb but it also stalled on tickover when warm likely to be same problem or if it ticks over fine and is only a problem when you turn it of its likely to be plug,

I had a Johnserred that did the same thing and i was told everything from a spark plug to gas mix ratio....as it turned out the gasket around the gas cap was old and the vent on the cap was plugged and it would cause my saw to vapor lock when it got warm....try a new gas cap

It is not the spark plug if it runs okay cool...This usually means your gas/air mixture on the carbureator are set wrong..thus making it miss out after warming up..or possibly you are not adding enough oil to the gasoline..which in 2 stroke is required..and the motor is getting hot due to this and cutting out...The fuel tank is fine for it wouldn't run right cold either...The chainsaw would misfire when cool too if it was the spark plug fouled out or going weak..

When 2-stroke motors mis-behave it's invariably the spark plug. Buy a new plug.
