that or
he wont hurt you, he;s a softy, he'll lick you to death, he's in the SAS.. (soft as ...)
Usually said when the dog is foaming at the mouth waiting to pounce.

It is however true that it aint the dogs fault.. its the owners, for not training the dog correctly, or not controlling it correctly. The main difference between a Rottweiler out of control and a poodle out of control is that a Rottweiler is a bigger more powerfull dog, so an incident is almost certainly going to be worse possibly fatal. It isn't the breed per se, a Jack Russel, a Poodle a whatever can attack if its not properly trained and controlled and monitored. A Jack Russell, like any dog, could attack but is unlikely to do much damage to an adult. bigger dogs can do correspondingly more damage as their size & weight increases.

There are some people who have dogs as signs of their virility, or as guard dogs (to protect "the girlfriend"), to protect the property.
there are some people who have dogs for fighting
there are some people who have dogs as a status symbol
there are some people whio have dogs as a totem (the old joke of 2.4 children + dog comes to mind.

very small children and dogs don't mix, dog owners need to take special care.

Like life itself, there are responsible dog owners, and there are irresponsible dog owners. there are dog owners who are barely capable of looking after themsrlves, let alone a dog, a child or whatever.

Arguably that may be covered by Dog Licesnces.. something abolished by the Conservatives int he 80's (I think). However short of instrcuting the police to stop and check every dog whenever they see it I don't think that licenses are the solution. Many of the worst dog owners don't actually care about minor stuff like what the law says.

to say a rottweiler or pitbull is not aggesive is bull.its thier nature.sure you can calm them down but the instincts remain.who uses a poodle as a guard dog.all dog owners should have to have insurance and the amount of that ins.should be based on the breed.too many people that dont have a pot to piss in have these dangerouse dogs and when they attack the victims have no recourse.you cant get blood from a rock.if you want to keep a large and possibly dangerouse animal.put your money where your mouth is.

It's not the breed, it's the owner and the treatment. People that have poodles to not use them as guard dogs or teach them to fight. But they are no less capable than a similar size dog of any breed. People do not give ANY animals the respect they deserve any animal in the home or yard is a wild animal first and a pet second. treat with respect.

all breeds of dog can be aggressive.. it's the size of them that gets the upper hand.. my little yorkie could give a nasty bite.. i wouldn't trust any dog not to bite..or worse.

Dog attacks are big, media friendly news articles (ie; they sell papers) but are still relatively rare compared to say; deaths on the road, cancer, TB (A REAL biggie), domestic abuse, obesity, testicular cancer. So - don't be a Sheeple yourself and follow the media line.

So, while not a dog owner, I would fully support people's right to own whatever they want - just be sensible about it.

Pit Bull owners say that a lot also. But I would trust a Rott before I would a Pit Bull.
