To cut a long story short, i've wanted to get into acting for several years now, but for reasons I don't really want to go into 'cause it'll take too long, I haven't been able to...

With my studies going on this year, and then I leave school to get a job or whatever I want to do, I don't feel as though there is enough time to get into a drama class as most school's only accept up to 18 years old. And I can't get into drama school as I don't have the relevant experience to go with the academic capabilities I have. Also, for the last few years my confidence has taken a complete knocking and i'd love to get this back and portray everything through acting. It's what I want to do, I know it, i'd love to be on stage etc., but I feel it's too late... it's there any websites with guidance for new actors who have no previous experience?

Also with my part-time job I can't go to the evening class I wanted to go to and I can't afford to give up my job =(

Thanks

Enquire is out of his mind if he thinks acting can be taught. You can learn about acting from a book or a class, but you only learn to act by doing it, being in a play or film. It does take a long time to become an actor, many years is not uncommon. In spite of that, it is never too late to start. Once you are out of school and have a full time day job, you could get started. Contact me when that happens, Doc

Hi there,

There are a number of acting websites available that will give you some good advice, for example:-

http://www.theactingwebsite.com/

this has useful articles and a section on acting training.

Have you considered doing some distance learning, which you could fit in around your other commitments?

Tha national Learndirect website lists a number of distance learning acting courses.
http://www.learndirect-advice.co.uk
use the find a course function and use the self study option.

I have also done a search on Hotcourses and got a number of acting courses available by distance.

I would imagine that it would also be useful for you to have some practical experience. There may be amateur drama groups local to you. You could find a list of them via your local library.

I hope this sets you on track, good luck.
