you have nothing to worry about. 95% of Kenya is safe as of right now. You are just concerned about safety because western media makes it seem like we are in a civil war. But here a short synopsis of what is going on right now. I hope it gives you some sort of Insight.
Kibaki and Raila were the two main candidates
Kibaki is pro democracy, he has maintained peace in our nation, and he has given us the highest economical growth in our countries history. Most of his supporters are middle class business class and upper class kenyas. Raila on the other hand is socialist-communist. He has been in the opposition for almost 30 years. His father was also a communist. He wants to take over the government and "end" poverty through communism. In reality he knows nothing about economics and if he came into power, he would become a dictator, end democracy and deteriote our economy. The thing about Raila is that hes a great nationalist. So hes succeded in getting the majority of Kenyans on his side because he knows how to appeal to the masses. The majority of his supporters are young (18-27), poor class (which is the majority of Kenya. The problem is most of his supporters are clueless hooligans who just want change, they want a revolution. Also the majority of his supporters come from his Luo tribe that resides in Kisumu near the Uganda border and the rest come from the Slums of Nairobi. The thing is these hooligans have been going crazy because Raila didnt win so most of them are just trying to cause havoc and disturb peace but because they are clustered in the same places, the danger is only in the opposition areas. So basically, the fighting is exclusively in the Nairobi Slums, The mombasa Slum, and western Kenya in Nyanza province. The police force has done a great job in maintaining peace because the rioters are blockaded so they cant even leave their slums and bring havoc to the rest of the city. None of the tourist areas are in chaos, and none of the rural areas. We feel safe in this part of town and by April no one will even be caught up in this foolishness. There should be peace in the rest of the country by the end of this month. Really its just low life scumbags who are going around looting and doing stupid stuff. They are an embarassment to Kenya.
And also, this is not the norm for Kenya, the vast majority of Kenyans want peace and will not tolerate this stupid behavior for long.

I am an English woman who has lived and worked in Kenya (I work in a home for orphaned and abandoned children) for a total of 13 years. Whatever other people have said on this site, this is not the true nature of Kenya. We are not able to travel far from our homes at the moment, just to be sensible. Almost all our workers are managing to get into work. We are trusting that this problem will soon be resolved and Kenya can return to being one of the most stable countries in Africa. The majority of Kenyans don't want this situation either. A Kenyan work colleague who drove me to work this morning said to me, I can't believe this is Kenya. I can't believe this is my country. I hope very much that you will come to Kenya in April and have a wonderful time.

consider changing your destination and go instead to Tanzania
a safer place to be with more attractions that Kenya has to offer.
some people say that it is NOT typical to Kenya. i would like to remind them the mau-mau revolt in the 50th.
also Kenya is less safer nowadays after so Many Somalis came to that part of the world

Do not listen to futbol. He/she is just as corrupt as Kibaki is. Kibaki is not for democracy. Democracy is about letting the people have a voice and make their choices. A democratic president does not ban all European observers from monitoring the electoral process in his constituencies. The very same constituencies where majority of his votes came from. A president who is truly for democracy does not rush into getting sworn in under the cover of darkness. A president who is truly for democracy does not declare a public holiday when he should instead be declaring a state of emergency. A president who is truly for democracy does not pay people to vote twice. A president who is truly for democracy does not gag the media by imposing a ban on live broadcasts when the nation is clearly in turmoil. And a president who is truly for democracy does not replace authentic ballot papers with photocopies.
A president who is democratic does not sit by and watch murderous hooligans known as the mungiki run around beheading people unabated. The mungiki by the way, is comprised exclusively of Kikuyus, Kibaki’s native tribe.
Futbol is either sorely misinformed or is as delusional as the president is about his popularity. The fighting in Kenya right now is not being staged by Luos alone. There are riots even in Kibaki's home regions.
Here go to these three websites for up to date information. I have been tuning in every day since they had the election
http://www.eastandard.net
http://www.nationmedia.com
http://news.bbc.co.uk
I find these three to be the most reliable sources for up to date news on Kenya.

You have got to be potty to want to go to a place like this unless you are a serving soldier in the army.
Did you go to Iraq for your summer holiday last year?
