In the olden days, women were born and bred for marriage. A shy and demure woman shows innocence and a need for protection - which attracted a guy in those days.

I believe women were suppose to be seen but not heard, listen but not question, and submit rather than act. Women were suppose to be decorative appendages, not human beings with thoughts, feelings or desires. Don't see what's attractive about it, a doll would do just as well.

they still are but it is about accepted standards of behaviour males expected to marry virgins so they would be disease free women who looked lke they had slept around were seen as a risk when it came to having a family it may be seen to be old fashioned but once again in the future we may see women being less forward less promiscious not because they are not free but because they realise what freedom truly is those qualities are attractive because such women are seen as mysterious a women should always keep a bit of mystery about her that makes her far more facinating men like easy prey but easy prey will not be seen as anything else but that and it s primitive behavior almost cave man like all this free sex I mean that is really old fashioned eh most societies go through periods of free love and sex but eventually revert to more restrained sexual behaviour okay one has sex with free women one makes love with a demure or shy ones

They are still considered that, by men who want to marry, I guess by men who want a banshee in bed and then move on they arent.

I agree with Devil's Advocate...back then, shyness and demureness were seen as hallmarks of submissiveness...a quality that men preferred women to have. That's just how it was back then. Shyness and demureness are still "prized" female characteristics in certain countries today...notably countries where women are still regarded as unequal to men.

They are submissive behaviors. It's really hard for a guy to feel all manly and in charge if the women he is with has a bigger set then he does. I like being married to a strong woman. It keeps me on my toes and when she gives me respect it's because I earned it honestly not because of temperament.

I believe all kinds of things were considered attractive; ever see the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers? Adam married Millie cause she was spunky; put him and his six brothers into shape she did; taught them proper manners; she'd have to be pretty spunky to do that. Some men want spunky; some men don't; some women are spunky; some women aren't.

Left much or most to the imagination. Marriage was the only way to fulfill it.
