Im hearing that the whole 2012 doomsday thing is a hoax?

Yes...The World will surely end in 2012. You didn't ask the day so I'm sure you know which day it will end on and I won't elaborate

I don't know if you're looking for this kind of distinction, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a hoax. I think "reckless pseudoscience" is probably more like it. It's not certain that those who started this intentionally lied. That would be a hoax. Instead, I believe these people were just extremely careless and intellectually sloppy. They were wrong and made no attempt to get their work peer reviewed.

It all comes from people thinking the Mayan calendar ends in 2012. It doesn't. It is just going to roll over, like we went from 1999 to 2000. also, there is no agreement by historians how exactly the Mayan calendar translates to our calender. The rollover could have happend a couple years ago.

Never heard of it.
It's always a hoax. If it is not, then somebody has a strong communication tie with whoever is in-charge of pulling the plug ...finally...poor earthlings they won't even know what hit them!!!
