Interesting question. I think that if we were a peaceful world population whether it was under one government or not, we would have a lot of cash to spend on cleaning up the environment, finding cures for diseases, excellent education and medical care for all of the world and ending world hunger.

Unfortunately, we keep spending trillions of dollars the world over to kill each other.

Civilization brings about Society. Society destroys Civility. The only way to have any group of people live peacefully is to have everyone believe the same things. That is never going to happen. We may one day have a one world government, but it will not be peaceful. Only when everyone gives up everything they believe in, will we all live in peace.

Human nature is to dominate. We dominate by oppressing one another. No matter how great the government system is, it will eventually be corrupted by evil people. It's human nature.

To answer your question, you have to solve the first two problems, then we would not advance any further. We would already be as advanced as possible.

Actually, no. Imagine the LARGER SCALE CORRUPTION that can happen if the we have a WORLD CIVILIZATION. Also, imagine the language fights, the distance problems, the resource curse, and a lot of things that can happen if the world is under one group.
