'Atithi' means arrival without prior intimation.
'devo' means reespected
'bhava' means make.
Torism is an industry now, where value addition is paid for. There is nothing special about it.
What is special about Indian culture is the way we treat a guest. see the difference is obvious- the difference between a customer and a guest.
There is attitudal change, u care for a customer and u care for a guest, the difference is apparent, but , in practise, we have to show it.
Beaches are same everywhere, whether it is Goa or carabean, ocean, tide, sand, clear air.. are same at both the places, then how to attract a tourist?
Buddha temple is same in India and Indonesia, then how to attract a visitor?
Let us revive our attitude of treating a guest as 'dev'. Let us welcome him with a smile and heartiest hug. Let us exhibit our feeling of joy on his arrival. Let us give him true and helpful information, let us guide him genuinely, let him be at ease with us, let him be served with likable food, let his health be cared for.
It starts from planning stage. Trip reservation, travel be made comfortable. Hotels should be clean and hygenic. Guides are back-bone of tourism, they need to exhibit indian culture and traditions. His choices and preferances be understood and taken care off.
the theme should be -
WELCOME A GUEST, SEND BACK A FRIEND!

Any habit praticed over a period of time becomes a quality.
A guest in tourism industry is one who want to explore about culture ,heritage, geography, adventure, fun and relaxation.
The essence of" athithi devo bhava" which means guest is god can be nurtured when you offer value for money, truthful in your approach, treat them as you wanted to be treated, promise what you can deliver and deliver more than you promise.
The guest should be so impressed that his/her opinion and experiences becomes the brand campaign for the product.
A long term success is possible only when you begin the end in mind which is customer satisfaction there by creating life time patrons.

It is to some one visit your home treat well. Whenever the good behavior is expected God in brought in between. Do not insult or cheat some one when they are in house. That is the essence.
It can be practiced by just keeping your self prompt and curtious.
Also Athithi has to behave like athithi.

ATHITHI DEVO BHAVA
the essence is that athithi is like a god-bhagwan to the home -place- country that he visits. he should be respected honoured, given a place for his temporary stay of couple of days and served food etc with prem bhave, daya bhave ,karuna bhave, and matri (friend- ship) and kshma bhave feelings and should not be lied, cheated misbehaved , misguided, tortured molested or raped. any such negative behaviour is against the essence of A_D_B.
for tourism , we can follow the above written positives. our sol moto should be to send him back fully satisfied. he should literally have a feeling that i am treated sd DEV by the host people and hence thecity- country.

Athithi or guest is regarded as the veritable god, as per the Indian culture. We believe that God might turn up in your house any time, in any form. The guest therefore is the likely vehicle of divine intervention or blessing. From such a glorious culture what a fall we have taken in teasing and harassing the NRI and the foreign tourists. We must hang our head in shame in the face of such incidents. I am sure no such incidents would happen in the West, who do not boast of their glorious past, as we do.

The business of tourism relates to all activities that cater to the comfort and satisfaction of tourists. A tourist is a person who travels out of his normal place of residence. A tourist needs are comfort and pleasure in travel, stay, food. Arrangements to visit spots of interest and attraction to him. He looks forward to it with anticipation. He is investing his hopes, time and money on the travel. The personnel are more important. therefore had to conduct programmes to help staff to act with special concerns. A tourist likes to do things which he normally does not do. This kind of opportunity to be made available.

You should treat all your guest like GOD.
In those days of Ramayan & Mahabharat who ever came to a house as guest was treated with best possible food, most cofortable room to take rest along with gifts as per capacity of the house owner. He was being treated just like GOD reached his/her home.
As present day also we try to do as much as possible for our expected guests. Unexpected guests never receives adequate treatment.
In tourism we need to treat all our guests like GOD only.
However the guest here need to pay price for the treatment.
Implementation is very simple. Charge the guest in advance and then decide treatment should be comparable to which god - Maa Durga or Maa Manasa !

The culture of India is to love and respect even the unknown people who come come across you.
The concept of God (Devatha Sankalppa) is to uplift all human beings to the maximum level of perfection.
We must ensure that our Thoughts, Speach, Behaviour, Actions and Relationships will be to support the guest to fulfill their requirements / whishes which will not negatively affect our culture and traditions.
We must be able to transform them also to the level of perfection - That much love, affection and transparency should be in our Thoughts, Speach, Behaviour, Actions and Relationships.
There should be firmness, correctness, completeness and elegance in this.
