I had this problem a few weeks ago and called out a repair man. The outlet pipe was blocked almost solid with limescale and the dirty water from my sink was going back into the macine This meant that the laundry was washed and rinsed in dirty water. Yuk. Try checking the pump and the grey pipe at the back first. If that fails put a dishwasher cleaner through on a very hot cycle. Dishwasher cleaner gets rid of limescale and grease build up. If that all fails, I think maybe its time for a new washing machine.
PS. Msg for Mr Linderman. My machine was only 2 and half years old. I had to buy a new one.

it could be because it's old, needs servicing or replacement..... When one gets too old the soul is willing but the body is weak....the energy supply am sure is ok, but the machine has over the years become weak..... So PLs have mercy.......

I'll bet it's stopped spinning properly. Next time you can hear it grinding in "spin" mode, open the lid, which will stop the machine.
If I'm right, the clothes will be sitting still, as if they were not being spun, and your opening the lid will kind of jerk it, as if you just reminded it to spin. Then, when you put the lid down, the machine will resume washing but this time it will spin for real.
My parent's machine did this until they replaced it. My machine does it too. I don't have the funds to replace it so every time I run a load, I have to listen to the machine making the "spinning" noise, then I open the lid to "remind" it to spin for real.
It's a pain, but at least the clothes get clean.

Have a repair man look at the limescale build-up and check the outlet pipes are not clogged. I expect you may find also the problem lies with residue from the soaps and conditioners you are using.
It helps as well (once it is working properly) to throw in a limescale prevention tablet with each wash. They are not that expensive, added of course to that the cost of repair or replacement will undoubtedly be much more.
Good luck.

Are you sure its still using hot water? Does the drum rotate properly? Make sure the pipes are not kinked so that it is not rinsing properly? Clean out the filter? Good luck!
