I recently visited a silk factory in China - they advised us to wash any silk with shampoo rather than laundry detergent - wash by hand and dry it in the shade. They did say that not all silk is washable so be careful. I have washed a silk dressing gown this way and it was fine. - hope this helps.

I have used shampoo successfully on a silk shirt that said dry clean only. Make sure it's not an all in one shampoo or moisturizing one. Regular baby shampoo works well in cold water. Drip dry. Silk dupioni shouldn't be washed. Be careful the color might bleed if it is dark.

First check the label. If it says dry clean only.... then take it to be dried cleaned, otherwise you might ruined the fabric.
If it's washable silk then try woolite, hand wash and hang to dry.

You could try Woolite. You can use it with hand washing your silk or in the washer on delicate.
