It turns out that this idea that liberals give more…is a myth. Of the top 25 states where people give an above average percent of their income, 24 were red states in the last presidential election.

While interesting, it is not the whole picture. Conservatives give to their churches(the Mormons, for example, HAVE to tithe 10% of all their income). Giving to a church or religion is not the same thing as giving to charity. A lot of the money given to churches is for the infrastructure and upkeep and even the salaries of the ministersof those churches. Not all of church projects are charitable; a lot are for proselytising purposes.

Or maybe it's true and we conservatives do give more to charity! Maybe we just have guiltier consciences.

It's because liberals believe it's the governments job to take money from them and give it to "charity" (welfare, windmills, public housing, and other stuff that makes the world no better, like churches do)

Their solution would be to take all the money people have, then it would be equal for everyone and we'd be living in a utopia

What you article says to me, is that cons are more likely to donate to church and faith-based organizations, nothing more.

what other articles similar to this suggested to me, is only that they are more likely to get a receipt for their donation, so they can write it off their taxes, while more likely to decalre a value on all the trash they dump at the donation site, rather than put it in a dumptser where it belongs.

What years of working at a charity has suggested, are wealthy folks like to dump their trash at donation sites, and declare a value on it, so they can write it off their taxes, while they run in and get free food, so they don't have to pay for it.

Also, if you sit outside Walmart and everyone that enterned donated a buck, you could still come up with these kind of figures, because cons love walmart more.

I dont consider giving money to my church as a charitable donation. I know some people do. But, in my head, I know that money doesnt go to the needy.

They give charitable donations to their local church which are the only social community support that some smaller midwest and southern towns have. Really you are counting church attendance which does not really speak to anyones personal generosity except in one environment your social and entertainment expenses are tax deductible and there is a group pressure to donate. Liberals tend to give more out of personal guilt. Usually some abstract notion of the betterment of the common good through generosity that they try to live up to.
