I've read in a couple books that prayer, of any kind, can influence people and events. As an atheist, I am starting to subscribe to this belief more and more.

prayer does work and i know from experience.

and the double blind studies done in hospitals DID show that those patients being prayed for showed shorter recovery times which led to less days in the hospital, less pain meds needed, fewer complications. i would say that was effective results huh?

Sometimes things turn out how you want then, maybe the prayer gave yourself confirmation that this was something you really wanted to happen, and perhaps motivation and determination to influence it if that was an option. As another answer said - positive thinking.
I am not sure how the prayer process works, but many people who are not religious may make hopes and wishes about the future and perhaps your just giving the most important hopes and wishes that bit more priority in your own mind by the prayer

I don't understand what "scientific prayer" is but prayer to God is very influential. You don't need science to pray.

Where is the science? Science is a methodology and process not a belief.

However, any form of focus will change events.

So it need not be prayer - it can be meditation or just positive focus as in NLP.

the effects of positive thinking and belieiving in something are documented, but studies have shown that when someone is prayed for without knowing it, they experience no effect.
the power of positive thinking on the human body and attitude towards life is great, but praying for a new car isn't ever going to make one fall out of the sky.

I don't believe in it. Define more on the part of how it can influence people.
