I have a couple of questions concerning Depo-Provera. I have been on it for about 4-4.5 years now. My last shot was due the 17th, and I have decided to get off of it. After about the 3rd year I stopped for 1 month and got back on it and started to notice weird side effects that I had not previously experienced. I gained about 85-90 lbs in under a year, I have had pretty bad acne which I hadn't before and have no history of. Still no period but I did have extreme mood swings which I know can come with the depo.Basically I want to know has anyone else experienced anything like this? When can I expect these symptoms to go away? I've heard anywhere from a month to years on end. How soon is it possible to get pregnant? and will my hormones ever be normal again? I've had a thyroid test and diabetic testing and I'm all clear on that stuff. The Dr. says all can be caused by Depo, but I'm restless, fatigued but can't sleep, low blood sugar I am just depserate for answers. Anyone gone through it?

It took me a full year to fully be rid of the side affects of depo. The ones I had were emotional, low libido, dryness, weight gain, fatigue. It took a full 8 months for me to have my period again. I really wish that had not happened lol!
You could become pregnant within 3 months of your last injection, even if you do not have a period. You may still be ovulating.
As for the low blood sugar, maintain three meals a day with snacks in between and try to keep it healthy.
As for sleep try chamomile tea, and turn off all things about an hour before bed, try reading.
Low blood sugar and lack of sleep can also cause mood swings and everything else! Dont exercise before bed, but get some early day exercise in like walking, that will help too.
It is different for every woman, but I wasnt "normal" for a year.

Get your bone density checked, as depo can really mess with your bone health (as well as many other horrible health risks).

MANY MANY women experience what you (and I) have experienced on the shot. I've been off of that POISON for at least 1 1/2 years now and I only hope my body will recover.

It could take years for the side affects to leave. I got immediately on Kariva (pill) and got my periods back in three months.

You can get pregnant ON depo, immediately after depo, and some women need to seek a fertility specialist to get pregnant after depo.
