i wish i would have listened to my grandparents when they spoke but i was a kid. just wondering why they came to the united states. does anyone have a similiar story from a relative of their own?

im from slovakia ok?so listen dear
1}world war 1 finished...the people were tired,after war is usually poverty...isnt it?
2}many years was slovakia occupied by hungarian people and that time evry one dreamt to live in country where is freedom and where you are welcome this was picture of USA...it was simple decision to leave country

Mine came here from Poland in 1905 for work. Both Grandfathers were carpenters, one a roofer.
Also religious freedom from Russia and, the feudal system or "caste" on certain crafts or people.

There could be many different answers to that question.
The probable answer though is that the thriving economy(or so it seemed)was attracting many people from foreign countries. Another reason could be that their home was destroyed after World War I and they needed a place to go, and America seemed to be the best place at the time.

around that time, ww1 was just getting over and the political and economical stability at the time offered great hope to the poorer european nations. generally money is the biggest motivator for immigration

USA=jobs, Europe=poo, thats why I moved to FL from Macedonia just 3 years ago, my parents went from being engineers to factory workers, for my and my sister's future.
