So my sister is applying to college again this year. She dropped out after getting pregnant and then gave the baby up for adoption.
Now it is 2 years later, she graduated, she has great grades and etc...
Would it be appropriate for her to write about that experience in her admissions essay? Since that is a life changing event... Do you think it is too personal? Any opinions on it would be appreciated...

Colleges ask questions for the admission essay, so if this experience fits with the question asked, then it would be appropriate, but she shouldn't just talk about it regardless of whether or not it fits the question. Also, if she is applying to conservative colleges, she may need to make it clear that she is no longer sexually active, not just that her grades are good, in order for this to fit with their values. Otherwise, though, she should be fine.

Definitely check to see if it is appropriate for the college, and the question.

But if having to deal with the birth, and then giving it up, because she knows it is better, it might show good qualities in her.

If she can spin the story right, it shouldn't be a problem.

While that is a very significant life changing experience, she would have to consider what type of college she is applying to. If she were to apply to a more liberal university say in california or something then it shouldn't be a problem, but let's say she's a applying to a school with a methodist or catholic background (or any religion really), then this topic may rub some admissions counselors the wrong way.

personally i would think writing about this experience would be beneficial, but if i were her i would gloss over some of the grittier details.
