I'm 17 and I'm going for my first gynecologist exam soon. Do I have to have my mother in the room with me while I'm having the exam done, since I am underage??

Your mom can wait in the waiting room if you want her to. Being underage is not an issue. I'm 15 and I make my own dr. appointments and go by myself.
When you go in just tell the Dr that this is your first pelvic exam and she will totally understand. If your Dr is male there will always be a female nurse there too. Personally I only want a woman to give me a pelvic exam and they most likely will ask if you have a preference. .
And Don't worry. It will feel a little wierd but will not be painful. It's done and over with very quickly like just a few min. For what it's worth the first is the scariest and most awkward. After that than they are just a nusense.

No you can go alone. Most doctors will be gentle and will be explaining what they are doing. Use this time to ask questions and the doctor will be happy to answer your questions.

no. I stopped havin my parents go in the room at any doctor (except when it was regarding my surgery) with me when I was like 15.
