N. Korea and S. Korea-The UN helped arrange a ceasefire. The Kashmir conflict between India and Pakistan hasn't been resolved yet but the UN helps keep the countries away from war. The UN provides a lot of humanitarian aid in places like Darfur, etc.

The United Nations is only successful on educational, cultural and scientific cooperation of the member countries but it is disregarded when it comes to development and use of nuclear weapons.

The UN has in fact been part of over 63 missions around the world since its formation after World War II. While many high-profile cases have been characterized as "failures", it ignores the fact that most are carried out successfully and with little fanfare.

Additionally, it is difficult to claim that those conflicts which are not prevented by UN peace keepers are made worse by their presence. By their own mandate, the UN isn't going to go into a stable country with a high chance of success. That is not to say there is no room for criticism, but that rather most missions are already in a poor situation when they arrive (Somalia was a mess long before the UN got there).

To specifically answer your questions, there are some missions that have done better than others. The transitions of countries to independence such as Namibia in 1990 and more recently East Timor are two obvious examples. Also the UN has overseen dissarmement in Sierra Leone and Liberia. A complete list of all missions the UN has undertaken is below.

How about Cyprus? The island is still split and the UN still keeps the two sides separated, but you haven't seen large scale killings for thirty years BECAUSE OF THE UN.

Look in the real world.
If they were successful.
Why the world is in a mess?
From internal conflicts, war, health, education, socilal living , global warming, ect.
Ever wonder what were they all doing out there?
Shopping at Madison Square?
When the folks and children were living in misery out there.
