In my Psych class a few years back, we talked about the mental process are person goes through when dealing with a terminal illness. I don't remember the process, but either the person will come to a state of acceptance. Not everyone is suicidal, I think that just depends on whether or not they are in pain. If it will be a painful death, they may finish it themselves. Others will not.
I'm not sure how common it is to wish to die when you are that bad, but I'm sure they all come to a point where they want to just get it over with.

absolutely, alot of people feel this way right after they are diagnosed, mainly from fear of the pain they will endure, or the pain their illness will cause the ones they love. If it comes towards the end it can be kind of a good sign, they have accepted the fact that they are going to die and just want to be finished, not only for themselves but for those caring for them as well.

It varies from person to person. When I was in my clinical nursing practice I came in contact with some very seriously ill people. Very few of them actually wanted to die.

In few cases, it is common if the person is depending on others for survival. In this case, the thought arises as they think they are troubling others.

Not all the time.

Some people wish they DON'T die and get better. My mother was this way before she died.

Sometimes people have no more hope and they decide to put their fate in their own hands.
