I have a D-Link 2.4 GHz Wireless Router, model no. DI-614+.

It is connected to my cable modem. It was working fine and we had a wireless network but we could not remember the password and i wanted to use it for my computer so i reset it by pushing in and holding the reset button. It then made a wireless network called "default" and it says that both my computer and my brother's computer are connected to it, but neither of them are actually able to access the internet.
As soon as I reset it, our desktop computer that was connected to the cable modem stopped having internet access as well, though it said it was connected to the internet.
On my bro's PC it says that the signal quality is "excellent" and on my macbook I have 4 bars on the airport signal, and yet it won't allow either of us to connect.

please help! I'm at my friend's house using her internet but nothing I did at home fixed it.

Are you on a DSL connection? If so, it might be a PPPoE service which means you need to sign in to use it. By resetting the router you erased that information. Log in to your router by using its default login information (google the model number and the words [default login]) and set up PPPoE.

If there is an option in that router to save settings to your hard drive, do it, so if you have to reset again it will be easier to reconfigure it.

Then write the access key on a sticker and put it on the base of the modem. Unless someone is snooping inside your house, no-one will know what your pass key is. The idea of the key is to stop people outside your house from getting on your network.

Your "Fix" may be as simple as this.
1. Unplug the power to the cable modem,
2. Unplug the power to the router.
3. Wait two minutes.
4. Plug in the modem. -- Wait till it shows all lights connected (usually about two minutes)
5. Plug in the router -- wait till it is "ready"
Try it out.

In most cases that will reset all the connections.
If not, you need to "setup" the router again.
Here is the dlink setup information

You just need to pick the correct "version" of the router and get the manual.

"Default" is really a poor name for your SSID why not use a particular one that is different for just YOUR connection.. like your last name or your dogs name etc. That way you can always identify YOUR SYSTEM!
