English: 225,700 miles
Perigee
English: 252,000 miles
Apogee
The distance of the moon varies from Perigee to Apogee, (closest to furthest) in miles, from 225,700 to 252,000 miles.
Doing the math… 5280Ft in a mile// so 63,360 inches per mile 14.3 billion rounded to 15.96 billion inches.
Between 14.3 to 15.6 (Billion inches)

You'd never use light-years. Light-years measure *HUGE* distances. The Moon, compared to everything else in the Universe, is our next-door neighbor. I know that NASA keeps track of the precise distance (as in own to millimeters) from Earth to the Moon via a large wafer of energy bounced off of a lunar reflector (placed by one of the Apollo missions) from and back to the Mauna Loa observatory (which is actually 5 observatories of various sciences). But if they publish that data, you'll have to search for it. Like everything, the Moon has an eccentric orbit (not a perfect circle), so you have to use an agreed-upon average: 384,403 kilometers (238,857 mi) from center to center. Since Earth has a 6,371 km radius, and the Moon's radius is 1,737 km, the average surface-to-surface distance is 376,295 km (233,819 mi). Obviously, just multiply the radii by 2 to get diameter. So Earth = 12,742 km and Moon = 3,474 km. Keep in mind that all of these numbers are rounded averages. Close enough for schoolwork, though. But don't convert the numbers to inches and expect them to be real-world numbers.
