I think crying is a natural reaction for anyone to have. It isn't healthy for someone to want someone else to bottle up their emotions and stop crying because it makes them uncomfortable. Sometimes it just really helps to cry and I think you shouldn't listen to anyone who tells you anything different. It is always best to be in touch with your emotions no matter your age or gender.

It depends on what you were crying about. If you were crying because you just found out that father christmas wasn't real, then he was right, don't you think? But if you were crying because your Dad had just killed father christmas, or something, then he was wrong.
Seriously though, no matter how old you are, there are times in life when you've just got to cry, like when you lose someone VERY VERY close to you, like I have just done. The tears are subsiding now, but the pain is still very acute (though I am filling up with tears as I relate this to you).
I've just (3 weeks today) lost my Darling, Wonderful, Beautiful wife to cancer. She was my Princess. She was my whole life.
I'm sorry I wasn't going to mention it, especially since some of you are so young and there's enough sadness in the world without me 'chipping in' mine, but it does seem appropriate to mention here, that tough guy as I was (ex Special Forces etc) and still am, at 68, I can still be reduced to un-stoppable tears and a very deep feeling of sadness and loss.

My dad said that to me at a young age and he was right, life can be really tough and crying doesn't solve all your problems, but I know everybody needs to cry sometimes, also I have two sons, 16 and 19, but have never said that to them.

I personally do not believe in that phrase. No on is ever to old to cry. People cry because of emotion and everyone has emotion.

Depends on the situation really. If you were crying because you screwed up and got caught, yeah, man up and take the consequences.
If it were something truly emotionally hurtful, say a friend or relative, or even your dog dieing, then no, that's harsh, and cruel.

No one is ever too old to cry. It is a natural emotion that every human being has. So therefore, everyone is entitled to cry at any age.

you were lucky that you had a father that would even say that to you when you were 13, but if that is what he said then don't listen to him it is when your about 13 for the most part that one stops listening to their parents and listens to their friends anyways, peer pressure is powerful at this age and even in weak adults or those that want to fit in
