Tell me if this statement is true or not and REALLY think about it and read the WHOLE thing before jumping to your answer

"Something is not true unless EVERY last person who knows about it thinks its true, if even ONE person thinks its not true
then its not"

That doesn't mean "everyone" thought the world was flat because EVERYONE didn't think the world was flat EVERYONE MEANS EVERY LAST PERSON!!!

Okay now heres the thing. if you say the statement is true then ok thats fine but when you disagree with it now its getting tricky because its hard to say the statement is false without saying its true, just hear me out

If you say the statement is untrue then you are ad least one person who doesn't agree with something and if you are saying its not true then that means you have just confirmed the statement! Because the statement says if even ONE person says something isn't true then its not, and you are one person who is saying its not true, but that means the statement is true

DO YOU SEE WHY IM FREAKING OUT

I said its not true but then that means that I am ad least ONE person who thinks that its not true and that means that its right, but it seems so illogical that unless EVERY LAST PERSON thinks something, its not true, so I say the statement is false but if its false then that means its true because im ONE person who doesn't agree with it and so im thinking that its true but I don't know

And there is a difference between someone saying they do or don't believe something and them actually believing it. But id have to say that if EVERY LAST PERSON THINKS SOMETHING, ITS TRUE. But I don't know

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I THINK I CAN PROVE THE STATEMENT TO BE TRUE

Most of the world thought the earth was flat but ad least ONE person thought it was round AND SO THE WORLD BEING FLAT WAS NOT TRUE, EVERYONE MEANS EVERY LAST PERSON

EVERY LAST PERSON THINKS THAT THE FIRST LETTER IN THE ENGLISH ALPHABET IS A AND ITS TRUE

I THINK I REST MY CASE EXCEPT I STILL DON'T BELIEVE THAT THE STATEMENT IS TRUE BUT BY SAYING THAT IT MEANS THAT I JUST PROVED IT TO BE TRUE AGAIN!!! WHAT DO I DO!!!

You kind of lost me on this, but I will recommend you watch the movie "12 Angry Men".

It is about a jury where the case seems open and shut, something like everyone agreeing.

One man decides something isn't quite right, and begins to investigate.

Eventually, they all change their beliefs.

Similar to what you said, when everyone believes something is true, it doesn't make it necessarily true.

It is possible everyone is wrong.

People will often be duped.

In this respect, people are like a herd and follow the leader.

They can be following toward a path of destruction.

Truth can be found in the World Almanac, book of facts.

Furthermore.....

Seeing all the negative answers, I guess I was right after all. People often can be duped, and when confounded by a question, take a negative approach rather than try and sift through it to see what truth can be found.

If in the entire world, everyone were wrong but one person was right, then nobody is in agreement of the truth.

When everyone agreed the world was flat, some doubters came along to prove them wrong.

People continued doing the things they've always done, nobody willing to admit they were wrong.

That's just the way it was, and that's just the way it is.

Watch that movie. Not only was it well acted, but it shows the many characters of people, and how just one can make a big difference.

I don't really get it but I agree with the person above: No matter how many people agree or disagree, fact is unchangeable.

But I think something like a movie can be used for this example. If 100 people saw 300 and everybody said it sucked, then I guess we'll have no choice to believe that it sucked. But if one person disagreed with the other 99, then that means it rocks?

I think if one person decided to go against a bunch of people then it doesn't really change the outcome, does it? Like for my example above, if 100 people were rating that movie and 1 person said it rocked while everyone else said it sucked, then the majority would win.

Realistically speaking, when was the last time an entire population was in agreement about something?

Ah, I'm probably not making any sense. I think you'll get better responses from the Philosophy section. They're used to discussing things like this.

I agree with the person that says you need to take a bath and relax.. I suggest lots of bubble solution and some candles... the whole thing. You really need it.

As for the actual answer to the question, Reality is perception. What one person believes to be true, another person might insist is false. Neither one is truly right.

Of course, if there is enough evidence, like there is with the world being round... the people that say it is flat are full of crap and need to pull their heads out. Don't just jump on the bandwagons and you shouldn't have to worry about whether or not something is true or false. You can figure it out on your own and forget what everyone else thinks.

Now, go take that bath...lol

No, there is no reason to assume that the statement is true, and many examples against it. First example, there are quite a few people that firmly believe the world to be flat, however we know beyond a doubt that it is spherical. As a second example many people are ignorant of the past or believe that it happened differently, but it still happened the way it did.

Edit:
The statement is obviously false, even if it was not intentionally constructed to create a paradox.

I hate to break the news to you but you are using a tortured logic—but the good news is that you obviously like to ponder upon such things so all you need to do is to master some basic logical reasoning principles.

You set about relative conditions in order to arrive at absolute conclusions which is much like dressing for the Bahamas for a trip to Antarctica and it just won’t work.

My advice to you is to dress for the occasion by learning how to think critically and you’ll be way ahead the majority of folks. Good luck with this.

Stef--(above) your argument is no better since it posits subjective reasoning which yields a relative answer which basically says: "It is true if you believe it so" which negates critical reality itself.

It doesn't exactly work like that, but I see how your viewing it.

No answer is either true or false. There are many exceptions to a question that can make an answer false, but there are other exceptions that can also make the answer true.

The way I see it, no answer will ever be the right or wrong answer, because every answer is....just an answer.

My head hurts now....

The original statement basically says this:
100% consensus = true
1% disagree/99% agree = false

and then I disagee with the original statement, therefore making it false IN MY MIND (I am the 1% in disagreement). This is a matter of cognitive relativism, which states that all truth is relative. This would mean that no system of truth is more valid than another one and that there is no objective standard of truth.

Here's a true statement. You need to go take a nice hot bath and relax your mind. The truth is you sound nuts. Will everyone believe this is the truth, that you sound nuts? I don't know...maybe I should post a question and ask everyone.

The statement would be true until proven untrue if this is believed to be a true statement.

It's called a paradox, where something seems to contradict.\

(By the way my history teacher told us of the whole "truth" concept).

Factual evidence can be true, because it is proven.

But beliefs cannot be true or false, because it can change.
