Hope Morgan don't mind this, but I thought of this when the question was asking about the wringer washing machine.
Does any one ever remember the stretchers that we use to put in the pants leg to stretch them out after they were washed? We still have them here to this day that we used back then.

Connie..even after we used the stretchers in the pants, mom still would iron the pants. I did my share of ironing as well. All of our clothes were ironed. I still iron today as a matter of fact.

I do remember them, but I haven't seen them in use for quite some time. I know that my mom still has some, but I don't think that they would fit many of the slacks today. The styles have changed some. Did they ever make some that would fit the bell bottomed pants? lol

Yes. Mother used them for my dad's and brother's jeans. They hated them because they left tops in the front and back poking out a bit. Sure beat ironing them though. I wonder if the young people today knew we ironed jeans back then.

I not only remember them but I have an operating one in my basement...along with a wringer washer. I don't actually use them but they do operate and could if I wanted to. I actually still hang my clothes outside to dry too ;)

Oh yes, and when I married in 1957, I used them on my husbands, service station uniform. They saved me from ironing them.

You can still get them. The wire framed things. You can find them in those little gift catalogs.

Yes I remember using them as a kid. I tried to find some once for my husbands uniforms. Couldn't find them. Remember liquid starch.

I know when I was a teenager I spent every Saturday morning Ironing everything ...baskets and baskets full of clothes. Funny but when I left home my mother hired a lady to do her ironing...I guess she didn't like doing it either. My grandmother had the pants stretchers though...
P.S. to this day my iron only comes out when I sew..just can't stand doing it
