Bios laptop protected. Deceased family member left it to us. Anyway I can break it short of going thru Sony ?

Download an .iso of Orphcrack (do a google search) and run it ... should tell you all the passwords on the computer

It depends on the password. There are basically 2 kinds of BIOS passwords. One prevents getting into the BIOS, and the other keeps you from booting. If it's the first one, there are numerous utilities you can run to either decode, or remove the password. If it's the second one, it might take some specialized hardware to reset it. If it's the Windows password, that's pretty easy with a special CD.

If this was a desktop, removing the BIOS PW would be as easy as removing the battery. Unfortunately, most laptops nowadays store the PW in flash. You can google your laptop model for a BIOS crack. Often, it's a special plug that you put in the USB or Parallel port. Sometimes, you have to actually unsolder a chip on the motherboard. It all varies by model.

just go into ur computer in same mode and admin mode than delete the password than boot and u wont be asked for a password and every thing will be unlocked.

It should be able to boot into safe mode by pressing one of those particular "F" command keys and from there you can change the user password. Otherwise reinstall windows by booting from the Windows disk.

You would need to remove power, and battery, then remove the bios battery. This is not easy. If it is held in nvram, this still will not work, you may need to take it in.
