Okay... My computer's REALLY crappy. It's even lagging as I type this. It's supposed to be a Windows 98 as it says but I have Windows XP on it. When I start it up it gives me a few choices-- Safe Modes or Start Windows normally. This used to not happen when I first got it for free from my Dad's friend until 2 months later or so. I think I have around 126 Ram, It's hard to get ram in because it's very tight and small but I do have ram I could add in. I don't have much money (63 dollars and 19 cents) and I'm too young for a job but I'm saving up to get a laptop. I mostly like making Amvs and playing Furcadia, But what do you guys think I should do? Live with it and use Safe Mode with Networking like I always do? Or try Windows 98 on it? xP Orr... Bug my Dad to take things out and add in ram?

Ohh and also, I can't open things in normal mode (Dunno what to call it) and it says something about there not being enough system resources to open it. It probably has to do with everything else that you guys said, though. Heh :P

You need more Ram ... at least 256MB ... the computer would have been fine with Win98 but as you know it struggles with XP ... you'll probably also find that the hard-drive is too small ... try turning off your system restore to free up space

Hi, here is what I think u should do. Bug ur dad to get u more ram or add in whatever u can get. I suggest u give Linux a try, u will like it a lot more than Vista or OS X if u try it. If u need any information or help about Linux u can contact me.

Here r some Linux distributions u should look into:
1. Linux Mint 4.0: It is excellent for new users and very stable.
2. Kubuntu 7.10: I am using it right now and its awesome as well.

You might have heard of some of linux 3d effects, if not then watch this youtube video:

Also Linux is very customizable and u can make it look like whatever u want.

Good Luck and take care!

Adding more RAM would help. I recommend installing Windows 2000. It's more up to date and it's light enough to run decently on your PC. You'll have to buy a Windows 2000 CD.

A combination of adding more RAM and install windows 2000 will speed your computer up.

Hi, This is an ideal oppurtunity to experience Linux for the first time, given your financial situation as its free.

Why not try Linux Xubuntu 7.10 a go on your PC, as it works well on older machines. If you take time to learn it then you will never think of using windoze again.

Yes it probably would be a good idea to increase your RAM though.

Good luck.

Well your computer is pretty much outdated, and it seems to be causing a lot of errors or improper shutdown. I would recommend wiping out the hard drive, and reinstall everything. That way your computer starts at a clean slate, and no I wouldn't go to 98 just because it is not being support, and on top of that you would need more money to properly upgrade that computer as welll.

Add the memory. 512 Megs would be best. Based on your "safe mode" boot, you probably need to reformat the HD and re-install Windows XP from scratch.
