I actually used to wish that cigarettes would be out outlawed altogether like drugs! I know that won't be happening any time soon, so the least that could be done is outlawing smoking in all public places and transportation. I feel sorry for the poor kids who have to live with smokers and are subjected to passive smoking every day of their lives.
What really annoys me is having this "smoking not allowed" sign at work, and seeing people smoking right next to it! Of course in any gathering which I am forced to be with smokers I have to keep my mouth shut since they are all my seniors! The one time I did say something I was faced with a smile, an "excuse me, you can open the window!" and lots of dirty looks which I just returned in silence! *sigh*

I'm not sure if it would work, but I think its a good law. Smoking causes health problems for kids and I cant tell you how many "close calls" there have been with people trying to light a cigarette or dropped their cigarette while driving. It would be hard to pass in the US, so I guess it would be hard to pass in a country with a high % of smokers.

sure it would work but after making the other laws all effective and justice be quick...i remember when they wanted the law of the seat belt work (even and especially in the deadly slow streets of Cairo) they did make it work fine and people were complying..

That's a good law however, I was wondering how is it being reinforced in Australia? Do they have officers specifically looking at every cars checking a smoking person if there's a child inside? Or do they just randomly check them the same way they check seatbelts?
