Hi there,
Congrats on entering the "club"
I found I had to sleep in a tampon at a friends house as I forgot to pack some pads. I didn't get TSS of which I was really scared of. Alternatively you could sleep in a thick pad and double it if the flow is really heavy. You could also pop a soft towel or a bed sheet under you to prevent leakage. Most pads/tampons these days are pertty reliable to prevent leakage. At the end of the day it is what ever you are comfortable with. If you get up in the night you can change the tampon anyway. Be sure to read the pack to avoid TSS - no needless touching, unwrapping the tampon as you are about to use it and clean hands.
Hope this helps
:)

Talk to your mother or another female relative that you feel close enough that you can share this type of information.
If this is your first period, you will probably not bleed that much, and your period may be irregular for a few months. I don't recommend using a tampon because they do take a bit of practice to get used to them and inserting them properly. Plus, tampons are generally bad for you, as they dry out your natural lubricants, leave behind fibers, and may expose you to potentially hazardous toxins...but I use a menstrual cup so I am a bit biased...anyway....
It is recommended you do not sleep with a tampon in, as they should be changed at most every 6 hours. Tampons and pads can both leak, but pads are better to wear while sleeping, even though they might be a bit uncomfortable. If you are worried about leaks, you can always sleep on top of a few old towels...not very fun, but it may help if you do leak.
Please speak to a female relative ASAP...they will certainly help you during all of this!

Relax!!!!
I have found that tampons are in general cleaner, especially whilst sleeping because the leaking sometimes does happen with pads because of laying down and the weird angles people contort their bodies in when sleeping.
As long as you change the tampons frequently, you won't have an issue with TSS...I usually do it everytime I pee...which is like 4-6 hours.
As for sleeping with one, just make sure changing it's the last thing you do before bed, and the first thing when you get up!!!
Don't worry, you'll be absolutely fine. I understand with all those stupid warnings on the box and the leaflet why you're paranoid, but you have nothing to worry about.

Ok, first things first calm down! Now, breathe in...... Breathe out. I'm 15 and i know how you feel! If the tampon feels comfortable you should be fine. And i have personally found out that you have a least likely chance of leaking with a pad than a tampon but its up to you. Its not very likely you would get tss but since you just started i would definately take it out and put on a pad. P.s. blood comes out of clothes easily so don't worry!!!!!

You should not leave a tampon in for more than 8 hours. So if you are going to sleep more than 8 hours, then do not sleep with a tampon in. I suggest using a pad. If you have the right absorbency you should not leak. You might also look into getting the pads that are made to be over-night pads.

You can only get TSS if you have a reaction to the tampon inside of yourself for a long period of time or depends on how long you have you have it in. Normally i sleep with a tampon in and use a pad as a back up incase it leaks out...Most women just sleep with a pad on...and dont worry about the tampon until they get up and they are on the go....totally up to you but you shouldn't worry about TSS. It only happens to a couple of girls. So i wouldn't worry about it too much.

I know how you feel. Getting your first period can be kind of scary huh? Well its not once you know what to do. Tampons are used during your period for more athletic events (softball, soccer, swimming, tennis, dance, etc.) Sleeping is not a athletic event, and I recommend pads for night time. Since your worried it'll leak through, don't be! That's exactly what pads are for. (to keep the bleeding to not leak or go through ur clothes)
Oh, and since you JUST GOT your period, I suggest you wear pads as most as you can. Tampons at a young age is bad....its just pads would be easier. I hope this helped.
=)

Use an over night pad, it takes time to really get use to a tampon especially if it is your first time! If you only have a regular pad, I suggest that you set up an alarm to get up in the middle of the night to change it so there won't be any leaks. When I had my first period I was scared too, and embarrassed to tell my mom. But once I told her, she helped with everything! It's not that big of a deal, all women get their periods. =] good luck

First , you need to relax. you should tell you mom and ask her about it , just do NOT sleep with a tampon in .. you can get really sick, and you cant be afraid you are ganna get tss. just make sure that if u get dizzy or a bad head/stomache ache just make sure u take ur tampon out right away!AND TELL UR MOM! now for sleeping use a pad it souldnt leak cause its your first time , but if you still feel uncomfortable sleep with a towel underneath you , the first time i got my period i slept with a pad on and it didnt leak but then again everyone is differnt... Talk to your mom GOOD LUCK HUNNY

You can safely wear a tampon without worry of tss unless you leave it in for a long time. The bacteria is a rare, it is just a precaution so the tampon company does not get sued. I personally do not care for pads because they are a nasty mess. You can wear a panty liner with a tampon for extra protection. Also, you can reach out to your mother and girl friends. It is nothing to be embarrassed about! Good luck!!
