I was just wondering if anyone could suggest a brand of turnout blanket for me.

I need something at least 1200D and preferably heavy weight. I bought him a really nice one last year, but I think he bounces off trees and fence poles in his pasture, because this is only the second winter it's been used and the thing is pretty torn up.

Does anyone know of any brands that are relatively inexpensive? I'd say the top limit is 150, but seeing as the thing is probably only going to last a year I would like to pay less if possible.

I've seen some realitvely inexpensive ones on ebay, but they're brands I've never heard of. Would those hold up as well? Does anyone have experience with McAlister blankets?

I picked up a Wetherbeeta off e-bay new for $60
It is a 1200D with 300 grams of fill very nice and heavy weight.
Check out the Horse Loverz e-bay store.
They have a bunch on clearance and sales.
The sizes are sort of limited and colors are limited as well.
I picked up two this year and total with shipping was $150.

I would high recommend weatherbeeta & Rambo.. my horses are rough out in the pastures and paddocks on there blankets but even with that said they havent messed or torn there blankets to bad..i have a stallion who is very frisky with the horses in the field and even with all there running, play and no play fighting and goofing off they stood up amazingly well.. saxon is ok too.... but id recommend Rambo and weatherbeeta first and foremost

Also, as far as finding a place to find them id try www.horse.com , www.jeffers.com , and dover depending on the brand and if you can get them on the closeout or sales can actually be very cheap..
well i hope that i could be of any help at all

Weatherbeeta, Fal and Masta rugs are good, but make sure you get something made with ripstop material otherwise you will just be throwing your money away! Ripstop is more expensive but it is worth it, and less easy for your horse to beat up in the field.

Weatherbeeta are worth the money, they have all different weights available to accomodate your horse and to keep him comfortable. I just bought on for $120.

Try Country Supply - they have decent blankets at good prices. The Saxon ones are pretty good.
