I just got a Dell Inspiron 1501 and downloaded PC Wizard to check the temperatures. It gives me this list:
Processor: ~37C
Processor Core 1: ~50's
Processor Core 2: ~50's
ACPI Thermal Zone: ~37

Why is it giving me three processor readings? It has an AMD Turion 64 x2 in it, but I don't understand what that first processor temp reading is supposed to be. The average of the two cores? If so why is it so much lower?

Also are these temperatures ok? It gets pretty warm sitting on my lap sometimes.

Hi. Your first answer is correct. Laptops tend to run a bit hot but the processor can take the 50s OK. Try a breadboard under the machine to keep the vents clear and you lap cooler.

The processor temp is taken from under the processor and most the time its cooler down there. The cores are in the middle of the processor where its hot.
