I think Tom Hanks did an exceptional job. I honestly cannot think of another actor to play the part, so I'm pleading that they don't remake this movie over again cause remakes seems to be the huge trend nowadays.

No, I really can't think of anyone who coud've played Forrest as well as Tom. But, then again Bily Bob Thornton probably could've done a decent job. If you've seen "Sling Blade" he played a character named Karl and he really made me believe that he was that character.

I don't care much for Tom Hanks but I think he did a good job on this movie...

i think KamalHassan can do it...
i am not comparing both actors.They are really good.
Kamal can do any kind of roles.He has proven many times that his good homework in particular character has really made him as an extraordinary actor.
Some may not know about him.jus look into the wikipedia for more references.He is the only indian actor who has recieved more awards and done more different characters.

The problem with this question it that Tom so defined the character, anyone who may be close to his acting chops may pale in comparison.
How would you feel if Tom Selleck did Indiana Jones instead of harrison Ford? (As Tom was primary choice)

really good question. I'm not sure who could have done better.
Bill Murray was considered for the role. I love Bill Murray, but I don't think it would have been the same movie AT ALL.

Maybe the character could have been played differently, but not better. That movie is awesome.

The only one I can think of, though he maybe would have been too old, is Dustin Hoffman. Remember "Rain man"?
