Sound can be used to determine the speed (in the Line of Sight) of an object comming at or away from you. Activley by measuring the doppler from true freq. to recieved freq, or passivley if you know the true freq, and comparing it to the recieved freq.
Sound is also used to diagnose machinery. By listening, and analyizing the frequencies and amplitudes you can determine motor/equipment wear, and determine which part of the motor/equipment need to be corrected.
By analyizing sound radiated from a piece of equipment or system, you can get an idea of how the moving parts are made up inside it. Using deductive reasoning, you could probably get a good idea of the electrical makeup as well required to support the moving parts.

sound waves are used in industry to facilitate mixing of fluids. The sample is bombarded with sound waves that break up particles and the result is more thorough mixing.
Some dentists use a sonicator to clean the surface of teeth by busting apart solid particles.
Ultrasound is used routinely in the medical field for imaging of soft tissue.
