YES, I live in GA, and pulled into my neighborhood and literally was 1 foot away from hitting one.
I am from Texas though. The ones I saw were always dead.

Yes, Little buggers use to run around a lot. I live near the border of texas in louisiana.

Yes, quite often, they are very common in Florida as well, along with skunk, squirrel, racoon, oposum, alligator, snakes of all types ( including rattlesnake ), bob cats, deer, rabbits, quail, and a number of other wild animals. And yes, I've seen all the above, alive and in the wild.
The squirrel, oposum, snakes (including the rattler), deer, rabbits and quail, have all been in my own back yard.
