Go to an urgent care center tomorrow to make sure the break isn't clean through, you don't want it to heal wrong. Urgent care is cheaper than the ER (usually the same as a regular dr. visit) and you won't have to wait as long. In the meantime stay off of it and take some ibuprophen.

Well, the doctors aren't dumb enough to have their foot run over by a 4 wheeler, and then go on YA for pain control suggestions. If your foot is swollen and truly broken, there is not a medication available legally that it going to help it. You can apply ice and prop the foot up, and take up to 800 mg of Ibuprofen every 12 hours. It won't really do much for your pain, though. On the other hand, since it is a sort of emergency, your wait in the ER shouldn't be that long and your dumb doctor can give you something not only for the pain, but to help the foot heal properly as well. I suggest you not wait until later, when the New Year's Eve revelers begin arriving in the ER from the car accidents and fights. Your choice. Go or suffer.

First off--doctors are not dumb I work with them every day. It sounds like you need to go to an emergency department to have an x-ray especially since you heard a "crack". If you aren't going to go right away, you will need to Rest, Ice, and Elevate. That is routinely what we tell patients. Leave the ice on for only twenty minutes though, and then off for 1-2 hours. You really should go to an ER. If your foot is as swollen as you say it is, they won't be able to cast it today anyway, but it will need to be taken care of.

The only dumb one here is Anthony. If there are broken bones( sounds as if there is) and there is severe pain you had better see that those bones are set properly before they set themselves incorrectly and you end up with a deformed foot. So you make the dumb choice of not seeing the dumb doctor and not sitting in emergency because you wait forever and let the foot mend and then they will all call you GIMPY! That's OK?

i haven't read the other answers yet, so i'm sure this has already been said, but why the HELL wouldn't you go the ER? Instead of waiting for a relatively short amount of time to see a professional that has been in college 8+ years and earned his/her doctorate, you sit at your computer and ask for amateur help? That's ridiculous. Get yourself to the ER, or call and make an appointment at least. In the meantime, ice your injury and keep it elevated. Anti-inflammatories, such as aleve (naproxen sodium) or ibuprofen, will help too. Just take care of yourself, and get to the hospital! Trust me, you will regret not going. It is NOT going to go away on its own. And it is for sure not going to heal without medical help. You need xrays! If you are not willing to go to the hospital, which is ludicrous, at least go to the local D.O. or chiropractor, who will point you in the right direction. Ask to be referred to an orthopaedic surgeon, although waiting in the ER would probably take less time. Why risk permanent damage that could entail severe and expensive surgery to correct? That foot needs to be properly set, before it becomes deformed! Anyways, enough with the ignorance, go to the hospital! Good luck walking without it.

Keep your foot up above the level of your heart. Wrap it quite tightly with an elastic bandage (but not so tightly that your toes get blue, cold, numb or tingly). Put ice on it--2 hours off, 2 hours on. Rest as much as possible; don't walk on that foot more than you absolutely have to. Do this for 24 hours and if it doesn't feel a lot better, then you need to go to the doctor.

well to help make the pain go away you should take advil and ice your foot. you do need to go to the doctor because if something is wrong with it and it doesn't get fixed it could be bad in the future. i did gymnastics for 10 years and i fell on the balance beam and hurt my wrist. my coaches pushed me to keep going and forget about the pain so i did. two years later after i had quit gymnastics i started to get severe wrist pains. my left wrist was going crooked, the bone on the outside, or the ulna was growing and the radius was not, therefore when i bent my wrist outward my ulna bone would hit the bones in my hand and grind together. what happened what i broke my growthplate in my radius and it never healed because i never went to the doctor so that bone stopped growing and the ulna kept growing. i ended up having two surgeries to fix it and now i have a bad scar and my left arm is just a little bit shorter. so i've learned my lesson and hopefully you will decide to go to the doctor after hearing what happened to me.

You should really try and go to the doctor... I know you wait forever and docotors can be a bit annoying, but they know what will be best for you.
As for the pain, when I broke my foot, my doctor told me to take 3 advil and ice it for 15 minutes then leave the ice off for 15 minutes and keep repeating that. You're supposed to use ice for the first 48 hours, then use heat to get the swelling down.
Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!

sorry but if you think doctors are dumb you are even dumber for not getting treatment if you think your foot is fractured. do you think it'll miraculously repair itself? you could be doing yourself so much more harm than good. there could be permanent damage done to the structure itself if it IS fractured and it's not in good alignment. if you refuse to go to the ER you could call your family doctor and get a referral to an orthopedic surgeon. oh well....do what ya want. it's your foot and your life. you are the only one that has to live with your decision.

Very foolish to not go to hospital. You will regret it when it heals wrong and you never walk the same again and have pain for the rest of your life. Come on! Don't be a cave man about it!
