I have recently applied and I've wanted to go to CAL for as long as I can remember. I am:
- a California Resident
- GPA 4.275 (weighted) 4.0 (unweighted)
- Valedictorian of my class (with most rigorous schedual offered)
- 1950 on the SAT
- 30 on the ACT
- SAT II scores of 770 and 690
- Extracurricular Activities (AcaDec Captain, Marching Band Drum Major, 4 year Varsity swimmer, School Lit. Magazine Editor)
- Leadership Programs (Boys' State, HOBY, Camp ROYAL, a local superior court leadership program)
- Summer Volunteer Work (Hospital, Library)
- Seasonal Work (Swim Camp Instructor)

Any ( but hopefully good) feedback will ease my troubled soul. :]

Addition: My high school only offers 14 AP and honors courses, and as of this year I have taken all but one.

A 4.0 unweighted is excellent. A 4.275 is not so great. Have you not been taking hard classes? You should fill your schedule up with nothing but honors and AP classes! The fact you *only* got a 1950 is evidence of this - not that that isn't an excellent score, but we're talking Berkeley, possibly the most prestigious research institution in the country.

Anyway, what's done is done, and you're probably on the good side of average. Apply and see what happens - you have a good shot.

Note: Average GPA was 4.17, average SAT ~2029.

No one can guarantee your whether u will get accepted by Cal, but just by looking at ur scores and status I say that you'll PROBABLY get into Cal. Sometimes there are other factors that will affect ur admission chance. For example, your ethnicity (minority), your parents' education ( Cal alumni ), or first generation in the family going to college. Hopefully u have applied other colleges ( like UCLA ) as your back-up in case u didnt get accepted, good luck !

All is good but the SAT, which would be fine for some schools, but weak for Berkeley right now. My guess is that it will come down to something crazy, like do they need additional males this year to avoid having a completely gender-imbalanced class.

Those are some pretty good stats right there. Berkeley is a competitive school, but I think you stand a very good chance because besides having nice stats, you are also a California resident which definitely boosts your chances.

Good luck!

I think that everything looks pretty good. Your ACT is definitely stronger than your SAT so make sure to turn that one in. I think it looks like you can get in. Even if you don't get into Cal, you'll get into a great school. Good Luck!

I'd say yes and it would add a cherry on top if you were a minority and put that. ALL colleges and universities want well rounded students and you sound pretty well rounded to me i think the community service is the kicker good luck brother wanted to go there to but to far from SoCaL and parents don't like the environment and they're paying sooooooo no UCB [yet =]]

ACT is just okay and SAT is a little low, but the fact that you're basically otherwise perfect means you will almost definitely get in.

Looks good.
If you are not accepted at Cal,
you will be accepted at another UC campus
and can transfer later.

Go Bears!
