The heater takes engine heat and the cooling system doesn't have to work as hard but there is no measurable change in mileage.

If you find your car overheating on a hot day, running the heater at full blast is one way to help cool it just a little so you can get to a service station (a relic of the past).

The Air Conditioner will cost you some gas mileage but not the heater. The heater works off of the water being circulated through the engine. The cars heater draws heat from this water and helps along with the radiator to keep the engine from getting too hot. There is no penalty to your gas mileage.

No it does not. The heat in the interior of your car is produced by the hot water circulating your engine. It passes throught a small heater core which emits the heat when an electric blower blows hot air through it into the interior of your car.

Absoutely not. Your car's heating system works by running hot engine fluids through a honeycomb-like grille, then taking a fan and blowing air across this grille. The hot fluids in the grille heat the air. When you go out to start your car in the morning, you are giving the engine fluids time to warm up so they can heat your air.

Nope. Unlike the AC, the heater has no effect on fuel consumption that you can realize. Technically speaking, by turning the blower motor on, you are increasing the load on the electrical system which in turn will increase the drag caused by the alternator. But this however would be so slight, it would not be detectable.

my guess is theoretically if the heater is turned on , the car could potentially use very slightly more gas as the alternator would work harder producing the electricity to operate the heater motor ,which potentially makes the engine work harder. Now every time the engine works harder it can potentially consume more fuel. Now is this potential increase in fuel measurable.......i am not sure.

Using just the heater no it doesn't. On the otherhand if you are using the defroster mode, yes it does as in defroster mode, your car also uses the air conditioning system to remove moisture from the inside air and the extra load of the compressor does consumne extra fuel.

no it doesn't use any more with the heater on as your engine always makes heat and thats what supplies it.

No. the only reason that it apears to is the exta time spent warming you car or truck up no one likes to get into a cold car and the start driving.

You wont notice any increase, but if you run the fan it will draw more amps from the alternator and make the engine work harder. But like i said you wont notice it. keep you tail gates up. its a mith that lowering them helps out on gas milage. there designed to be up and get the best milage when up.
