How about investigating the effects that global warming are having on the jet stream over North America. Some meteorologists have speculated that a shift is occurring which may have cataclysmic effects on U.S. states in the southwest. For example, it's been speculated that Texas may become a veritable furnace, resulting in massive defoliation due to long term drought brought on by a shift in the jet stream which will block the movement of beneficial weather systems to the area.
