Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening,
terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in
this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the
religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by
giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their
view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and
learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness;
chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself.

Think for yourself.
Question authority.

To question authority blindly is even more harmful than accepting it blindly.... authority is invested in an institution over centuries through wisdom earned by generations of experience... more often than not they make sense and that is the only way they sustain and get carried on..... for instance, the parents earn the authority due to their superior knowledge and experience coupled with the ever present love for the children and zeal for their welfare. While there can of course be exceptions, but it is true that over a long period of time, authority can only be sustained because it is justified. I would therefore never acquire an attitude of questioning all authority all the time... I would instead rebel only when my experience shows that the authority is either not justified or is being misused...... otherwise I would accept the wisdom gained from generations of experience and go with it faithfully.
The truth is that I am not only what I think and make for myself, but also the result of centuries of evolving experience our generations have gone through.... if I refuse to take benefit of that, I would end up making a start from the very beginning and waste most of my lifetime reinventing truths that have been discovered generations ago.

Sounds more like a statement than a question. Throughout history we've not always even been called a species, but it's true that we're the only living thing that shows signs we can see of being uncomfortable in our own skin. A dog never thinks it's funny or sad or ironic to be a dog. Even those few other mammals that can "recognize" their own reflection live by rote, do not learn or do new things. Maybe it's nothing more than our ability to question things which causes us to question also ourselves, but I agree. It is better for all to learn to govern and think for yourself than to want for someone else to tell you.

dude!!! don't you think that's the best part. if this world wasn't chaotic then they red be nothing but order. no spontaneousness. no mystery. I hate to say it but the longer we go through bad times the better the good times seem and if we truly know the answer to all of life's mysteries, would it be better then if we would be chasing after the answers. we are who we define we are as individual but as a sasioty we need a little chaotic for our own development and good.

plus each generation defines themselves differently. one may be one way and the next may be different. hope this helps.

I can't say who we are, though I have been thinking like this. It's hard to find an answer, and yet it's so easy to let the authority symbols think for you.

We are Children of some divine being

No, we are the top of a long ladder of constantly evolving animals.

No, we are the hosts to alien souls.

Whatever we are, we, nonetheless, are.

We think, therefore, we are.

Well, I guess not all of us think when there's already thoughts out there for us to take in and say that we think.

I think, therefore, I am.

to truly be a free spirit and think for yourself, you must have absolute control over your life - which is impossible, there is always an influence. whether it be the government controlling you with the law & order, media and education influencing your train of thought - the only way you could escape that is to make your own country and abide by your own rules!

How can another man tell me who I am? Who told him who he is? By what authority does he name me? How does a chair be called a chair unless its maker names it? How can a man know who he is, unless his maker name him?
